You Call This a Casino?

We left the KOA in Petaluma with a very loose plan of where we were going to spend Monday night. I was thinking of maybe Trinidad, but after another very long day of nothing much but driving, we decided to try for the Bear River Casino just north of Fortuna. The problem we had in California was that Jumbo was too long to stay in any of the State Parks, so we always had to come up with some kind of alternative plan.

A pretty redwood tree at a rest area...

More and more driving...

We pulled off along the side of the road to stretch our legs, and found a nice redwood grove.

This would be our first time staying overnight in a casino parking lot, and we didn't know what to expect. We registered, and signed up for their player's club, which gave us each $10 to play with. After we got Jumbo parked, we went down to the casino to try our hand at the slot machines. Larry was used to putting real money into the machines rather than a card, and he had little patience with the whole procedure. I actually won $12 from playing with my free $10, so I cashed out and felt pretty happy with myself!

We left this den of inequity early Tuesday morning and drove to Eureka for breakfast. We drove around town looking for a little hole-in-the-wall cafe... this looked interesting, but wasn't quite what I had in mind!

We kept on looking...

There are some beautiful old buildings in Eureka...

We decided on Kristina's for breakfast. It was great!

Our table happened to be next to a window right next to the car. Duchess could see Larry and gave him her most annoyed look!

So he ordered her some bacon!

My country skillet. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach!

We were stuffed, and Duchess was thrilled with her bacon! Larry gave her two pieces and saved the rest for later, putting the box in the back of the car. We stopped at the Co-op in town to do some shopping, and Larry said, "I wouldn't put it past her to hop over the back seat and get that box while we're gone."

Sure enough, the box was in pieces on the back seat, and every crumb of bacon was gone! She was one happy little brown dog!

  1. My experience is that breakfast menu names that include terms like "country skillet", "hobo scramble", "platter", and such, are usually big enough to share. LOL!
