Shaken, Not Stirred...

During the late '70s, I was invited to a lot of Princess House parties. In fact, I'm sure I had a few of them myself. I had forgotten all about this little bar set that I had acquired way back then, until one night when I was talking to Mom on the phone. I mentioned that I had rediscovered gin martinis, and remembered how much I loved them! During the conversation, I recalled that I used to have a martini pitcher with a crystal stirrer, and she told me that it was in one of her kitchen cupboards! I must have left it with her during one of my many moves, most likely not having room for it. Like James Bond, Larry and I prefer our martinis shaken, not stirred, but I couldn't resist bringing the little pitcher, along with three of its original six glasses, home with me. If I remember correctly, I used the glasses for Kahlua and milk rather than martinis - they're not the right shape, after all, although less likely to spill than a conventional martini glass.

In one of my boxes somewhere out in the storage shed, I also have the ice bucket...

It works quite nicely for seven-layer salad. I'll have to dig it out sometime between now and Christmas, since that's the only time I seem to make a seven-layer-salad.

Since display space is very limited here in Jumbo, I placed the martini set on the shelf that Larry had made across the top of the dashboard. Even if I never use that little martini pitcher, I love looking at it. It's a part of my personal history that has made its way back to me, and I treasure it. Thank you, Mom, for taking care of it for me!
