A Nice Surprise...

I had a few errands to run on Friday morning, and when I got home there was a package from UPS on my porch. It was from Amazon, and I thought Larry had ordered an accessory for his new phone, so set it aside for him to open when he got home from work. When he saw the package, he didn't say anything, but opened it and handed me a red protective case and said, "do you think this will look good on your new phone?"

Woo Hoo! I finally have a smart phone! It seemed like everyone had one but me.  OK, I realize that not EVERYONE has a smart phone, and Larry didn't have one either until just a couple of weeks ago. We decided that it would be a good idea for him to have one for his job, and that I really didn't need one. I could make do with my dumb phone for awhile longer. But since he realized how much he enjoyed it, he thought that I should have one too. What a nice surprise! I'm waiting for the sim card to arrive in the mail tomorrow, so can't actually make phone calls, but I've had fun exploring all of the other options.
Those darn Angry Birds are pretty addictive!

Larry was in the mood for Thai food Friday night, so rather than visiting our favorite Thai Rhapsody, we tried a new place... Noppakao Thai Restaurant on 132nd St. S.E.

We started off with a beer for Larry and a glass of Gewurztraminer for me...

I ordered the  Heavenly Coriander with prawns, coriander seeds, snow peas, baby corn, mushrooms, and bell pepper, stir fried with sweet soy sauce and sprinkled white sesame seeds. And this is so unlike me, but I forgot to take a picture of my food!

Larry had the Garnet Sweet and Sour with prawns, tomato, cucumber, pineapple, onion, bell pepper, snow peas, and celery in special Noppakao sweet and sour sauce. He ordered it extra spicy, and it was. He was sweating before the meal was over.

Personally, I prefer Thai Rhapsody. I think the portions are larger, because I always have plenty to take home for lunch the next day, and I finished my meal at Noppakao without being stuffed. Larry can never get enough heat at Thai Rhapsody, though, and Noppakao satisfied his fire level requirement!

We didn't do anything too exciting Saturday morning, but a little after noon we noticed that we had no electricity! We discovered that it wasn't just us, but most of the park.Apparently a transformer went out and the folks from PUD who came to check it out said that it could be up to five hours to get everything up and running again, since they didn't know if they would have to repair it or replace it. Oh well! We decided to go get ice cream! Since our freezer is too small to hold a carton of ice cream, and even when we do have electricity, it doesn't get cold enough to keep the ice cream frozen, we have no choice but to go to the source...

We love this place! And it's less than five miles from home!

Larry had a scoop of rum and a scoop of blackberry, but the picture I took of it turned out
 too blurry to use...

I had my usual - a scoop of Mukilteo Mudd and a scoop of Salted Caramel...yummmmm.

The power still hadn't come on when dinner time rolled around, but we had our handy-dandy propane range. I whipped up some Zatarain's dirty rice. In the past I used Morning Star Farms crumbles in place of the ground beef, but I discovered a few weeks ago that one of the ingredients is wheat gluten.I had to go through a few days of itching as a result,  so I now use black beans as the protein instead. Works just fine!

Larry decided to be creative and add a banana to his dirty rice. I didn't want to go there!

 ...and more cheese!

and to make the strange concoction complete - hot sauce! No wonder he had indigestion later!

Still dark inside Jumbo, but we have lots of candles...

Finally the electricity was restored, just in time for some Sleepytime tea and bed!
